“ Not since Vizen left Sarasota have I found a truly great sushi place to fill the void. (please send suggestions!) The thing is, it's one of those meals that either satisfies a craving.........or totally overwhelms you with its precision, taste and excellence. It's typically one or the other, because let's be honest when you are hungry for sushi just about anything can and will do in a pinch. But seldom do you find the latter. Don't hold your breath- Samurai is not all the way up there......but it is definitely raising the bar. I've visited twice now and I must say, they are starting to hit their stride. On a recent visit I ordered the three roll lunch special and was very pleasantly surprised by the value, amount of food and more than anything- the quality of the experience. Each roll was very tightly wrapped, held together extremely well and clearly represented high quality in terms of content and craftsmanship. It's strange to describe food in these terms, but when it comes to sushi, it's really how i have come to appreciate the differences between good and everything else. I will be going back often. Right now, in SRQ, this is at the top of the heap. ”

“ Stopped in to check out Samurai and had an enjoyable Saturday evening. There is free parking on Hillview. We sat at the bar which was very nice. We liked the ambiance, soft lighting and nice atmosphere with booths and tables and a sushi bar in another room. They have a full service bar. Jarod was the bartender and he was very attentive and pleasant. Our drinks were mixed perfectly! We ordered the dumpling soup, the duck bao and the cowboy roll. The soup was hot and flavorful with a good amount of dumplings. The cowboy roll was very good I would have liked a little more steak wrapped around but it was very good. The duck bao buns were so yummy , but could use just a little more duck on the bun ! We also ordered the saki flight which was a fun way to try the different flavors. And of course we had a dessert which was a very refreshing mango pudding. Overall an enjoyable night out and the prices were very reasonable. We will be back. ”
